After Christ’s death and resurrection, He left His disciples with the Great Commission (Matthew 28:18-20), in which He told them to go and make disciples of all nations. A disciple is not only someone who loves Jesus but someone who follows His Word and seeks to continue to multiply disciples.
18 Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” Matthew 28:18-20 (NIV)
Pre-discipleship is as simple as forming a relationship with someone (e.g. Going on coffee dates, surf sesh, etc.)!
We do it in order to evaluate if someone is a person of F.A.I.T.H.
